该公司由Bernard Lewis建立于1948年。最开始，该品牌以Lewis Separates 之名在伦敦经营了一件小店。后来，品牌名又经过了几次变换(Chelsea Girl, Concept Man)才最终在1988年确定了River Island这个名字。
英国品牌，衣服质量高于英国的Topshop。1988年由Chelsea Girl 女装及Concept Man 男装两家公司合并而成。 <
